My Journey to You.

My name is Christena Copeland and I am the founder of SEEK Therapeutic Counselling. I'm very pleased to meet you!

Please note, therapeutic counselling is often covered by insurance plans, however, we can work on a sliding scale, dependent on your needs. We care about your health and wellbeing, first and foremost.

My past therapeutic journey

When I say I’m a counsellor who has done the work, I mean it; I spent twelve years working with a Jungian analyst and counselling therapist who helped me explore anxiety and depression, heal past traumas, and change the trajectory of my life. This work not only improved my self-esteem and self-love, but it also enriched all the relationships in my life. I want that sort of healing for you, on your terms, with a therapist (ME!) who genuinely cares about your well-being.

My professional accreditation

Today, I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.). which, oddly enough, happens to be my initials (Christena Catherine Copeland)! Carl Jung would say that was synchronistic; others might say it was a coincidence. Regardless, here I am—after years of working in fundraising, communications, and public relations—finally focusing on what I believe to be my calling and true vocation. From an educational standpoint, I have a Masters in Education, Therapeutic Counselling, from Acadia University, a beautiful academic institution in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Canada. That experience was both challenging and enriching and I recommend it to anyone who feels the stirrings of wanting to become a counsellor

Who are my influences?

If you’ve reviewed my website or any of my social media accounts, I’m sure you’ve noticed that Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Jung, has played a big part in healing journey, so I’m proud to infuse his complex and enlightening practices into my own. American psychologist Carl Rogers is also another therapist whose work has influenced me. Carl was the founder of person-centered therapy, which believes that unconditional positive regard, active listening, compassion, and genuine care are the most important aspects of the therapeutic relationship. I couldn’t agree more. Through my training and experiences I have also seen the benefits of solution-focused therapy and even cognitive behavioural therapy, so you’ll see those practices woven into the work I do. Aside from that, I appreciate the wisdom of many philosophers, several musicians (Prince), and even modern-day truth-seekers, like Russell Brand.  I would be remiss not to send a shout-out to Rev. Henry Sharam, who, although no longer practicing, was pivotal on my therapeutic journey.

What I want for you

I believe people want to be heard; their experiences acknowledged; and their feelings validated. In my therapeutic practice, compassion, nonjudgement, connection, and active listening all come into play. You deserve to heal. You deserve to have a non-biased and caring individual walk beside you as you heal.

I would like to play a role in your healing journey.

And it’s okay to get ugly—healing isn’t always a glamorous road and that’s okay. No toxic positivity here! It’s normal to feel angry, frustrated, sad, and hurt. Life can be tough, and I will walk beside you as you explore the depths of those emotions.

On a personal note

While it’s best for a therapist not to share too much about their personal life—the process is supposed to be about YOU, not me—I will tell you that I enjoy what I deem to be a simple life. I care deeply for my pets, my family, and friends. I have chosen non-traditional paths on my self-discovery journey and have learned to appreciate truth, compassion, nonjudgement, and humour. Sometimes, laughter truly is the best medicine.

Let's find some time together

I'd be happy to share some time with you, and encourage you schedule an Introductory Session, where we can explore your needs and desired outcomes. Not only that, it gives you the opportunity to decide if I'm the right therapist for you. There's no pressure! This is your your journey.

With that said...

Love and support to you on your journey.
